For several years I led an event in San Francisco by the name of UX Speed Dating. It was inherited from another product designer and colleague from Atlassian, and I carried the torch for years onward.
The concept was based on typical "speed dating" where attendees would meet for a few minutes of discussion and then rotate based on a timer. Except in our case, the purpose was not for one's love life, but to test your designs rapidly on as many users as possible.
And we had a really fun range of prototypes that would be tested on the regular — anything from low fidelity, high fidelity, paper prototypes, word sorting, and occasionally even a board game. Attendees always seemed to find the event valuable and told me they would often plan design iterations around this monthly event.
The User Interface / User Fashion (UIUF) event was just a playful variation where we focussed more on discussion and ideation of interesting new, fashionable, interfaces to explore for apps.
